My paints I love with thankful heart, My thoughts are still before I start, With steady hand I hold my brush, Just like calm water I’ll not rush, When I paint with colours bright, I bring to earth the sun’s own light, That all upon my painting might, Be such a most beautiful sight.

This is a poem that my class used to say before we did painting in primary school. I sometimes think it before I start a painting and thought I’d finally share it with you. I went to a Steiner School and we said poems and thanks before every lesson and lunch. I didn’t like it at the time but now I think it was kind of nice, it made everything feel like a ritual.
